Kabbara Engineering was selected by the City of San Clemente to prepare plans, specifications and estimates for the rehabilitation and repair of a 2 mile portion of South Avenida Ola Vista, from Avenida Palizada to Avenida Calafia, through Downtown San Clemente. The project was separated into two 1mile phases for funding, bidding and construction purposes, and serves as the main access to the San Clemente Pier, beach, downtown business district and numerous residential and commercial areas. Federal ARRA funding and State SR2S funding was utilized for the construction of this project. However, each Phase of the project was designed concurrently to achieve the cost and scheduling efficiencies, as required by the City of San Clemente. The project included pavement rehabilitation, traffic calming improvements, including curb extensions and roadway narrowing, intersection realignment and bike route enhancement. This project also included special consideration and protection of Historical ‘Ole Hansen’ sidewalk pavers and walls within the project limits while providing for construction of new sidewalk improvements to fill in existing gaps and to provide a continuous path of travel on the westerly side of South Avenida Ola Vista from Avenida Palizada to Avenida Santa Barbara. Curb ramp upgrades were also provided throughout the project in conformance with Federal ADA requirements. The project also included cold plane and replacement/reconstruction of the existing roadway pavement, redesign of existing cross sections as needed to improve drainage and driveability, new sidewalk and retaining wall construction, storm drain catch basin relocation, correction of surface drainage deficiencies by repair of damaged, lifted, or sagging sections of curb and/or gutter, cracked cross-gutters, driveways, sidewalks, and curb ramps, utility adjustments and relocations, traffic signing and striping, and traffic detector loop replacement. Project was completed on schedule and within budget.
