DOWNTOWN BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT, DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA
The City of Downey selected Kabbara Engineering’s design team to prepare plans for the Downtown Beautification project. This project consisted of narrowing the existing street to provide wide sidewalk and allow angled parking. The KE team is responsible for preparing plans, specifications and construction cost estimates for street and storm drain improvements, street light improvements, landscaping, irrigation, traffic signal modification and striping for this $1.5 million dollar project. KE is the central design figure coordinating between landscape and electrical consultants. Project improvements included narrowing of the existing roadway from 4-lanes to 2-lanes, evaluation of existing drainage deficiencies, and providing curb and gutter construction. Improvements also included the removal and reconstruction of driveways, sidewalk, handicapped ramps, trees, landscaping, new pedestrian lighting, a new irrigation system, and special paving for crosswalks and sidewalks. This project was successfully completed on a very tight schedule of 4 weeks, and on-budget with no fee increases.
